For Immediate Release

(Washington, D.C., Atlanta, GA Nov 25, 2014) – The Stiefel Freethought Foundation has generously awarded Black Nonbelievers, Ex-Muslims of North America, and Hispanic American Freethinkers each a grant for $10,000. The funds received will greatly assist each organization in our missions to provide support for members of our respective communities while promoting secular values, freethought and rationalism.

“It is much harder for people to be openly secular if they belong to an ethnic minority,” said Todd Stiefel, president of Stiefel Freethought Foundation. “I hope others will join me in donating to these three wonderful organizations so they can increase acceptance for their communities.”

The Black Nonbelievers, Ex-Muslims of North America, and Hispanic American Freethinkers would like to thank the Stiefel Freethought Foundation for demonstrating their confidence in our organizations through this grant. This support will help all three organizations, which are dedicated to empowering freethinkers and reformists in our ethnic communities, to work towards our respective missions in the secular community.

All three organizations promote humanistic ideals and strive to work for the rights of non-theists, and are 501c3 nonprofit under the federal tax exemption guidelines.

“The existence of a thriving Ex-Muslim community is vital for promoting reform and creating space for dissent within Islamic communities.” said Muhammad Syed, Executive Director of EXMNA. “We would like to thank the Stiefel Freethought Foundation for their confidence in us.”

“As the number of Blacks who leave religion behind increases, so will the need for our visibility and support” says Mandisa Thomas, founder and President of Black Nonbelievers. “This is a major boost for all of our organizations; however your help will still be needed so that we all can continue to carry out our work”.

“With more Spanish speakers in the U.S. than any other country in the world except for Mexico, HAFree is fully dedicated to help Latinos free themselves from the limitations of irrational beliefs.” said David Tamayo, President and Founder of Hispanic American Freethinkers, Inc (HAFree). “This donation will help HAFree reach out and educate Hispanics on critical thinking skills while promoting a greater Latino representation in STEM fields; all this helps break the cycle of poverty and ignorance that feeds most superstitions and dogmas. HAFree is very grateful for this generous contribution.”
