Washington DC – This week Ex-Muslims of North America (EXMNA) introduced the Normalizing Dissent Tour – a first-of-its kind effort to bring apostates from Islam to campuses across the United States and Canada.

“In most parts of the world, it is very dangerous to be an Ex-Muslim. Hundreds of millions across the world believe our “crime” of leaving the religion must be punished by death. Despite widespread persecution, atheism is growing rapidly across the Muslim world. For centuries, we have been forced to live in fear. We believe that it’s past time for Ex-Muslims to receive the full measure of human dignity all deserve.”

14 Muslim majority countries punish leaving the faith by death, many more consider it a crime worthy of imprisonment. For many despite the legalized murder of apostates individual lynch mobs are sufficient to dispatch dissenters. Even those accused of the crime of blasphemy find themselves in dire straits in the Muslim world.

“The dialogue around Islam is stale and divisive. We must be willing to take-on toxic religious beliefs as well as any bigotry against those who hold them. We believe Ex-Muslims can challenge assumptions on both sides of the political aisle, and we want ”

“Ex-Muslims are persecuted all over the world, 14 Muslim-Majority countries punish leaving the faith by death, but even in the West apostates have much to fear, both at the hands of extremists and even at the hands of their own family seeking to protect their honor. At the same time, many Ex-Muslims maintain ties, of both blood and friendship, with Muslim communities, and still bear anti-Muslim bigotry due to our names and ethnicities.”

At the same time, many of us maintain compassion for our former communities and those within them
