Washington, D.C. –– Ex-Muslims of North America is proud to announce that it is officially a public charity with tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Any donations made to Ex-Muslims of North America are tax-deductible retroactive to our registration on Dec 3, 2013. Ex-Muslims of North America is now eligible to apply for grants on both the national and state level, which will allow for more outreach to Ex-Muslims across the continent as well as further advocacy on the national and global level.

“I’m very pleased at receiving our 501(c)(3) status, as it will allow us to expand our operations and provide support to Ex-Muslims,” says co-founder and executive director Muhammad Syed. “As the only non-profit devoted to Ex-Muslim advocacy and organizing in the United States and Canada, we have a responsibility to be visible and approachable so we can work towards normalizing apostasy from Islam. We have expanded exponentially since our launch last year and being granted status by the IRS will help us to continue the rapid build-out of Ex-Muslim communities as well as improve the reach of our advocacy and activism.”
