Washington DC – Ex-Muslims of North America (EXMNA) is introducing a new event in the Normalizing Dissent Tour – a first-of-its kind effort to bring apostates from Islam to campuses across North America to share their experiences and unique perspectives on the faith and its adherents.

On October 5th, 2017 the Secular Students and Secular Skeptics at the University of Colorado – Boulder will host a talk on “Islam, Modesty and Feminism” featuring a panel of three former Muslim atheists. The event will begin at 6 pm in room HUMN 1B50.

Currently, 14 Muslim majority countries punish leaving Islam by death and many more consider it a crime worthy of imprisonment. Often, even the mere accusation of blasphemy can result in vigilante violence. Additionally, many Ex-Muslims in the West experience repercussions such as shunning and physical violence by their communities and/or families seeking to protect and preserve communal honor. Despite the widespread persecution, atheism continues to grow rapidly across Muslim communities. Though apostates from Islam have lived in fear for centuries, EXMNA believes it is time for ex-Muslims to receive the full measure of human dignity we all deserve.

With the Normalizing Dissent Tour, EXMNA aims to bring nuance and provoke dialogue around issues affecting ex-Muslims and amplify their voices to challenge assumptions on both sides of the political aisle.

Ex-Muslims of North America is a 501 (c) (3) registered nonprofit which advocates for acceptance of religious dissent, promotes secular values, and aims to reduce discrimination faced by those who leave Islam.
